SUPPORTS
AMSTER
A curious individual who arrived in Askr one day without fanfare. They're extremely wishy-washy on their backstory, but they have a kind heart and are always willing to lend a hand!
Nobody's ever seen them and the summoner in the same room, but Amster swears that's not suspicious at all. Neither is their pathological fear of cats and owls.
Amster is, obviously, the summoner gallavanting about in a human form granted to them by Lyon's dark magic. They do their best to keep it under wraps, though! They feel like if folks knew they had a human form, they'd be expected to maintain it at all times.
It's an extremely impermanent thing, to boot! They need to ingest demon blood in order to transform in the first place — and the transformation only holds until they slip up and react to something with 'ham-speak' (such as saying 'heke,' going kushi-kushi, etc.)
Of note is the fact that Amster only has four fingers on each hand, and they're still a sucker for headpats!
STORY
Before the summoner was the summoner, they were simply a hamster! And they led a fairly simple hamster life. They were the runt of their litter of twelve, and at some point their mother tried to eat them (as mother-hamsters are wont to do.) Some time later they were moved into a cage on the sales floor of a pet shop with the rest of their siblings, and one by one they were all taken away to loving homes by humans! The summoner (who was not yet the summoner) lay awake more nights than they could count, consumed with thoughts about how different their life would be once they, too, were taken.
But something happened.
(The summoner doesn't like to talk about it.)
In the end, all of the summoner's siblings were adopted into loving homes. Some were returned on account of runny noses or worrisome eating habits, but they were all eventually homed for good — save for the summoner, of course. Nobody ever told them directly, but nobody ever had to: they were never going to be adopted. They never stopped hoping, but it was a shallow, empty hope. Deep down, they knew.
It was late one night; they were dreaming when a strong and bright voice echoed all around them. 'O Great Hero from another world,' the voice beckoned, 'Askr has need of you... come, lend us your strength...!'
They don't remember choosing to heed the call — perhaps they never had a choice in the first place. They remember falling, and then a flash of bright light. And then a whole slew of things they'd never experienced before: sunshine in their eyes, grass beneath their paws, wind in their fur. It was overwhelming. Terrifying, even! The first thing they did was weep.
And the rest, as they say, is well-documented history! Though nobody was expecting the great Hero of Legend to be a hamster, they had the inexplicable power to wield Briedablik — and so they were accepted as the Order's summoner. Just in time, too, because within the week of them arriving, a mysterious sleeping illness began to sweep the Kingdom of Askr.
Somewhere along the way, this became the summoner's home — and the Order of Heroes became the summoner's family. Though they be but little, they are fierce; they'll fight to protect the ones they love with every fiber of their being.
INIGO
The very first hero to answer the summoner's call. The two of them hit it off almost immediately, and it turned into something of a partnership that they both struggle to put into words. They're the long-standing friends who struggle to come to terms with the fact that their feelings for each other aren't 100% platonic. Regardless — they carry each other in their hearts, always.
FREYR
The summoner's memories of the Dream-King are gossamer at best. They've only ever met him in dreams, and whether it's the real him or just a facsimile can't be said with any certainty. Something about becoming so familiar with him in their dreamscape causes the summoner to hold him extremely close to their heart, though. Dreams with him in them are their absolute favourite.
ILYANA →
She's an unexpected kindred spirit that shares in some of the hamster's favourite activities — namely snacking and working themselves into a tizzy over beautiful men. She introduced the summoner to the vast world of vampire erotica, and was willing to try her hand at sewing an outfit so that the summoner wouldn't feel left out. Time spent with Ilyana, the summoner would say, is always a delight.
RHYS →
An absolute paragon of kindness and light, as far as the summoner is concerned. After a somewhat embarrassing first meeting (they didn't mean to spill so much of their life story so suddenly, they swear!) it would be hard not to fall into a fast, deep friendship with the man. They share in a profound longing for wings, and the summoner isn't shy about their aspirations to be as kind and lovely as Rhys is.
LYON →
Lyon is nothing short of admirable, as far as the summoner is concerned. As much as he insists that his dark past leaves him undeserving of kindness and truth, the summoner believes the exact opposite and isn't shy to say it. Unfortunately, the lengths he goes to with what he does for them procs a deep, primal fear within the summoner. They're humiliated, and blame themselves for their actions.
KNOLL →
Knoll is a bit of a mystery to the summoner — but a fun mystery! He also gave them a chance where very few others ever had, speaking to them plainly as if being a hamster didn't mean they couldn't put forth worthwhile work. He's kind and funny, and sometimes incredibly confusing with the things he says, but the summoner works hard to ensure that his faith in them isn't misplaced.
NILES →
If anyone heard that the summoner spends a fair decent amount of time in Niles' company, they'd probably say: "oh no." And they'd be right! While much of the rest of the Order treats the summoner with care — what with them being a hamster and all — Niles speaks with them as plainly (and explicitly!) as he would any other adult in the castle. What nobody would expect is the hamster enjoying it.
KIRAN →
Anyone can see the similarities between the two summoners — it's only natural that the hamster looks up to Kiran as a sort of authority on how to be the best summoner they can possibly be. Kiran's been at this for so much longer than they have, so clearly whatever they do is the way things should be done... right? (They're still a little skeptical about the men dungeon, though.)
DIEDERICK →
Is anyone surprised that the summoner fell hard and fast for the beautiful man who seductively pours water over himself for sport? He's an absolute sweetheart to boot (as far as the summoner knows, anyway.) His feelings towards them are probably way, way more platonic than theirs towards him — but even with that in mind, the summoner inevitably enjoys the time they spend together.
RABBIT →
A kindred spirit in the form of another woodland creature with a penchant for handsome men and a pathological inability to talk to them without getting flustered. It's surprisingly comforting to be in the company of another small animal taking on the responsibilities of a human. All of the Wonderland stuff kind of flies over their head, but they're happy to share in a feast of veggies!
SOREN →
Everyone keeps describing Soren as a sourpuss who's mean to just about everybody — but the summoner can't help but feel like Soren especially doesn't like them. Even beyond the constant threats of laying out mouse traps or calling exterminators, the hamster can tell that Soren thinks poorly of them. He's supposed to be tutoring them in tactics, but their poor relationship makes it hard.
JOSHUA →
The summoner wants to like Joshua. They really, really do. He's pretty, and his hair is nice, and he's been part of the Order of Heroes for almost as long as they can remember. Not to mention, he used to give them kisses and be very nice to them! But ever since the knife incident, and then the whisker incident, something's changed — and they find themselves hoping he doesn't notice them.
ECLAT →
The summoner's heart hurts when they think about Eclat. Even though they're a hamster, they understand the implications of where his path is leading — and they keep doing everything they can to talk him out of it, and they keep failing. They can sympathize (better than they let on) with the fear of being hurt by letting others in, and they still — despite everything — offer him friendship, every time.
SHARON →
The summoner doesn't know what the relationship is between the one with pink hair and the one with black hair — but they do know that Sharon's apparent condemnation of anyone with an even slightly checkered past (as far as they're concerned) leaves a sour taste in their mouth. They still talk, but the summoner finds it hard to be quite as at-ease around her as some others.
JERITZA →
He's absolutely gorgeous with beautiful hair and a kind heart — so it should come as no surprise that the summoner is absolutely smitten. They parse his attitude as austere, so sometimes they're a little intimidated out of approaching... but whether from afar or up-close, they're always daydreaming of running their paws through his hair as he feeds them grapes and scratches their cheeks.
CHESHIRE →
They still aren't entirely sure how they wound up summoning Cheshire, when he feels like he comes from a world so far removed from every other hero they'd ever met. He terrifies them (and they're pretty sure he enjoys it!) but they swore for the new year that they'd try and start over with him, and they're a hamster of their word. He seems to come and go as he pleases. The summoner won't complain.
